Your triple-threat adventure pants. With bug repellency, cooling, and odor-blocking technologies, you'll be playing outside from breakfast to sunset. Flattering, off-center front seams keep you looking good. Pockets keep your gear secure, and you can zip off the legs to 9.5" shorts for versatility. ExOfficio® loves innovation, so they developed the new BugsAway® Sol Cool™ technology to give you the ultimate in travel comfort and protection. Sol Cool™ Jade fabrics slowly absorb and quickly release heat, creating a cooling sensation on the skin. The fabric is cool to the touch and wicks moisture. SILVADUR™ activates silver ions in the presence of undesirable bacteria, helping eliminate odor. BugsAway® apparel is treated with Insect Shield®, giving you invisible, odorless protection just by putting on your clothes. The treatment is bound to fabric fibers, so it stays in your clothes—not on your skin—and lasts through 70 washes. It's effective against ants, flies, chiggers, midges, and ticks, as well as mosquitoes, which can transmit insect-borne diseases such as Zika, Chikungunya, Dengue, and West Nile viruses.

Old vs NewI purchased a pair of these previously, which I truly love. Unfortunately the new version doesn’t suit me quite as well, but could be fine for others. The new version has a double snap above the zipper. The old version had a button. The new version has hip pockets. The old version lacked those pockets but had some elastic in the waistband which made them fit SO much better. The new version lacks the velcroed left thigh pocket and although th right thigh zippered pocket is present, its not quite as deep, so my iPhone 7+ sticks out the top and cannot be secured with the zipper closure. Both are a very lightweight fabric and do seem to keep those bugs away.

great summer hiking pantsWe got both the men’s and women’s version and both my husband and I loved hiking in these pants. They are flattering, comfortable, lightweight yet sturdy, cool (perfect in hot weather), and they dry super fast. They are also very practical with good pockets. I normally wear size 6 pants but had to size down to 4 in these. I fell once on a rocky trail and these pants, however light, were surprisingly good protecting my skin. We bought these for tick protection, and they turned out to be fantastic hiking pants overall.

BugsAway gardener from
Exchanged for other BugsAwayI returned these pants because I was not happy with the fit. I picked the size based on the sizing chart but they were too big, plus the fit was not flattering. I bought, instead, a smaller size in the Damselfly pants, and I am happier with the fit of my Damselfly pants. I have other BugsAway clothing and I am a big fan of the BugsAway products. I get WAY fewer mosquito bites when I am wearing my BugsAway clothes. I wish they were more commonly available in stores so I could just walk in and try on a variety of styles but of course during the pandemic most stores don't allow that anyway so I am just glad that Ex Officio makes it relatively easy to return items that don't fit.

Cute, comfortable & no ticks!I bought these pants in both green and gray. I really like them. I’m not sure why another reviewer called them dorky. I’m in my 30s and pretty fit, so not an old lady yet, and I think they look great on. I like that they’re wide enough to go over my boots, but not so long they drag on the ground or look too baggy. Since ticks climb from low on the body upwards (hint, they’re climbing up your legs, not falling from trees!), the fact that these go over the top of the boot is a big plus. I paird them with the Exofficio bugsaway socks. I took these for an initial hike in Montana recently and loved them! I was happy and comfortable the whole hike, even with unpredictable spring weather in the mountains that had some of the people I was with uncomfortable and grumpy by the end of the hike. Some also ended up with ticks that they found afterwards, but I didn’t have any. Deifinitely recommend these.

Comfy, flattering travel pantsThis was my first Ex Officio purchase and I am really impressed. These are the perfect travel pants. Comfortable, lightweight and actually flattering. They run true to size. I feel like I’m in Jumanji. Love the convertible zip-off bottoms, especially the color-coded zippers so you can tell which side is which. More than I’d usually spend, and with every penny. I’m excited to test them out in Panama.

What happened to my butt?!CONS: The legs are so huge that the pants fall from my hips straight down making it appear as if I have NO BUTT AT ALL!! I have ordered a pair of convertible pants from another company to see if they will fit better, but I am going to keep these anyway, as a
second packable for emergencies. Only an emergency would make me want to wear these, lolz. I have never been extraordinarily vain, but I am becoming so due to injury. I'm only 58 but I broke my back three years ago weightlifting at the gym and I've gained 15lbs and three sizes because I can't hike or exercise. All I want is for what I DO have to look good, while I attempt to get back what I had. Currently walking no more than 1/4 mile.
BUGSAWAY? So far Protection appears to end with the fabric, giving me pretty much the same protection any medium weight fabric does, (mossies can suck you through lightweight fabrics). So I am still being mosquito bit about my ankles. I haven't been able to walk far enough to encounter ticks as of yet. But because we are living in a Texas RV Park and there are deer EVERYWHERE, they roam unmolested at edges of our park and sometimes even through the middle; I imagine walking at the edges would be the truest test of these pants. If my first perception is right, than I shall still have to apply 99% DEET on my ankles and tuck my pants into my socks, making me upset over paying the extra money for Bugsaway.
PROS: So far, Comfortable. Well made, quality fabric and sewing.

Seem to Work!I find that I do not need to use bug spray on hikes while others are being bothered by insects. On my last hike, I used an ex officio bandana, top and these pants. I like that I do not have to remove my boots to unzip for shorts. Pants would be more useful with another cargo pocket on the left leg and more comfortable with a higher waist. The front pockets are too narrow and short for safe use.
