The Sol Cool Collection is treated with xylitol, a natural ingredient from white birch, to lower skin surface temperature during activity. Ice-Fil converts sweat to refrigerant, creating a cool and fresh fabric that absorbs and disperses perspiration.
In one experiment, conventional fabrics contained excessive sweat after 30 minutes of running while Ice-Fil had none. Flat yarns are used to wick moisture and discharge body heat. Sol Cool Tees are engineered to fit dynamically and comfortably while offering protection from the elements. Ice-Fil shows up to 99% of anti-bacteria function with 50 washes.

Doesn’t all clothing offer sun protection?
No. Studies have generally shown that tighter weaves and darker colors offer the best UV protection. So theoretically, a pair of blue jeans would be ideal. However, blue jeans are not the ideal travel garments.

What is the difference between UPF and SPF?
SPF ratings are most commonly found in sunscreens, but recently SPF’s have been showing up on clothing as well. While the trend is encouraging, labeling clothing with SPF is somewhat misleading. Why? An SPF rating for sunscreens is determined in vivo, meaning it is tested on human volunteers who apply lotion directly to their skin. Ratings for textiles are determined in vitro, without human volunteers using a spectrophotometer – an instrument that measures the % of UV rays transmitted through a fabric. To help differentiate the two processes, industry leaders are beginning to use a UPF rating for textiles.
How is a UPF textile rating determined?
A combination of fabric construction (weave and tightness of weave), fabric weight, fabric color (darker colors for more protection) and fiber type (synthetic vs. cotton). The more the fabric blocks and absorbs UV rays, the higher the UPF rating.
Does the UPF change when wet?
The UPF rating on a garment is reduced when the fabric gets wet. Synthetics hold a tight weave in water, as opposed to cotton fibers which are more likely to loosen in water, therefore allowing more UV rays to penetrate through the fabric. So, a cotton t-shirt is not the ideal cover up when in water.
Is there a design difference for UPF rated clothing?
When designing a UPF rated garment, fabric and design are taken into consideration. Fabrics should offer a tight weave – essential for keeping UV rays from penetrating through to the skin, yet remain lightweight, quick-drying and ventilated for hot climates. They also need to cover exposed areas such as arms, neck and legs.
Why are synthetics better than cotton fibers for UPF rated garments?
Synthetics are generally better than cotton for sun protection because the fabric fibers are smaller allowing a tight, lightweight and breathable weave. This helps block UV rays while keeping the wearer cool. Cotton fibers are not as fine as synthetics and cannot be woven so tightly, allowing more UV rays through the fabric. To achieve a higher UV protection cotton fabrics need to be bulked up, making a garment warmer and less ideal in hot climates.
