Monica Smith
Design Director, ExOfficio
Seattle-native, Monica Smith, brings over 10 years of apparel design expertise to ExOfficio. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, and then furthered her educational background with an Associates Degree in Apparel Design from Seattle Central Community College.
Prior to joining the ExOfficio design team, Smith managed her own apparel design company, BesaidBode, specializing in wardrobe consulting and custom design for a diverse line-up of private clients in the Seattle area. Smith joined ExOfficio's team in 2001 as the Women's Wear Designer, charged with bringing new developments to the Women's technical collection. An assortment of Smith's product designs such as the ExOfficio's Women's "Gill" and "ExO Dri" styles quickly became top-sellers. ExOfficio soon evolved Smith's responsibilities to include design for both the men's and women's collections and promoted her to the current role of Design Director in January of 2006.
Smith's innovative, multi-functional apparel designs are inspired by a lifetime of rich, travel adventures. Even as a very young child, many a port was explored by Smith and her family via their converted 42 foot World War II tugboat. Since then, Smith has enjoyed road tripping and camping throughout the US, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada. She has also explored Europe, Scandinavia, Mexico, Russia, Thailand, China, India, Indonesia, Taiwan and South Korea and cannot wait for her next adventure.
